The Concept of Good and its Relevance to Humanists

20/01/2020 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Our January 2020 speaker is Susan Harr who says of her talk

“…I’d say that I have always been interested in the philosophical notion of ‘good’, from the Greeks to contemporary thinkers.  I particularly like Iris Murdoch’s ‘take’ on this, borne out by both her philosophical writings and in some of her novels.  In ‘The Nice and the Good’, for instance, she draws an interesting distinction between ‘niceness’ and ‘goodness’, and whilst she always denied putting major philosophical themes into her novels, there are definite references throughout her literary works…. I shall also be looking at several women philosophers, as the fair sex doesn’t get much of a look-in as a rule…..”

All welcome
